Re: Invitation for Your Students to take a Field trip to North Central Florida Hurricane Response Expo, Gainesville, April 20, 2001

We would like to invite your students to take a field trip to the North Central Florida Hurricane Response Exhibition, on Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Gainesville Regional Airport. Please forward this to interested teachers.

This is an excellent opportunity for a nearby field trip that is both exciting and educational. Public safety is enhanced when students learn how to prepare for a potential disaster like a hurricane. We are expanding interactive educational activities for students at the 2001 expo. Field trips should occur between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Over the last two years, many students have enjoyed sitting in the pilot’s seat and learning from the crew about what it is like to fly through the eye of a hurricane. In addition to the hurricane hunter air craft, there will be many other emergency response displays including fire trucks, ambulances, helicopters, as well as additional air planes. The very popular ride-to-the-top in the basket of a Gainesville Fire Rescue ladder truck will be back. Information on what is being done to protect the community from chemical releases will be available from the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

This third year of the expo will be the best one yet. If you would like to register early or need additional information, send an email to mundy@ncfrpc.org or call me at (352) 955-2200 x108. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you for helping with this innovative public safety project by forwarding this information to your teachers.

Additional information will be available in February 2001.
