EPCRA (Emergency Planning and Community Right‑to‑Know Act) requires many businesses and government agencies to annually report if they have certain types and amounts of hazardous and toxic chemicals. Starting this year, facilities in Florida can now submit Tier 2 Chemical Inventory forms electronically over the internet.
The North Central Florida Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC District 3) is providing FREE workshops which will explain how to use the new FloridaHMIS.org. The LEPC is offering these compliance assistance workshops as part of its outreach efforts during Florida’s Hazardous Materials Awareness Week, February 14‑20, 2010. Two seminars are being held on February 17, 2010, at the Council office starting at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. A third workshop is being held on February 19, 2010, at the Suwannee River Water Management District starting at 1:00 p.m. A flyer follows.
To register for one of these three workshops or for additional information, please contact Public Safety and Regulatory Compliance Director Dwayne Mundy at mundy@ncfrpc.org or (352) 955‑2200 ext. 108. Additional information is available at www.ncflepc.org/floridahmis.html and www.hazmat.floridadisaster.org.
Other LEPCs and local governments are encouraged to also sponsor a hazardous materials awareness week to provide a focal point to help educate the general public and elected officials on the importance of local hazardous materials prevention and emergency response programs.
