HAZARDOUS
MATERIALS SPILL PREVENTION WEEK
FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 3,
2001
WHEREAS,
the safe use of hazardous materials is essential to citizens, business, industry
and local governments to maintain economic stability and the public health;
and
WHEREAS,
the North Central Florida Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) recognizes
the importance of preventing spills as mandated by Section 112(r) of the Clean
Air Act enacted by the Congress and joins the State Emergency Response Commission,
numerous Counties, Municipalities, and School Boards in supporting increased
community safety; and
WHEREAS,
it is essential for local governments and the Local Emergency Planning Committee
to help prevent the accidental release of hazardous materials, to prepare plans
for responding to hazardous releases and to implement programs to protect the
well being of all citizens and visitors to this area; and
WHEREAS,
first responders, including firefighting, law enforcement, and emergency medical
services personnel, must be informed of reportable types and amounts of hazardous
materials and chemicals that are present in our community and properly trained
and equipped to safely respond in the event of an accident or emergency; and
WHEREAS,
all citizens have a right-to-know of the types, location, and quantity of certain
hazardous materials and chemicals in their community and to know proper procedures
to take in case of an accident or emergency; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE LEPC THAT:
FEBRUARY
25 - MARCH 3, 2001, IS DECLARED AS HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SPILL PREVENTION
WEEK.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED by the
North Central Florida Local Emergency Planning Committee, at a regular meeting
held on the 16th day of February, 2001.
